Culantro - Eryngium foetidum
Grown as an annual in temperate climates, the aromatic culantro plant is used extensively in many regional Asian as well as Caribbean cuisines. The flavor is reminiscent of cilantro, but the appearance is completely different. In India it is used for making chutneys. The Hindi word for culantro is bhandhania as it is also known in Trinidad and Tobago. Also known as Recao in Puerto Rico, and fitweed in Guyana. An essential ingredient in Vietnamese Pho, and Sofrito in Puerto Rico. Grows best in the shadier, moister and cooler parts of the garden.
